Location

Paleochora is located in the prefecture of Chania, at the south-western coast of Crete, on a small peninsula between two scenic bays and is rightly dubbed the “Nymph of the Libyan Sea” and “Land of the Sun”. The area is said to be built on the ruins of ancient Kalamidi and here’s where you get the chance to enjoy the rare beauty of the sun setting into the Libyan Sea.

Gorges & Hiking

For those of you that love canyon hikes and crossings, this definitely is the right place.

Paleochora will be your starting point for a visit to the most famous of canyons in Crete and all over Europe: the Samaria Gorge. Here, thousands of tourists visit every year to hike across it and admire its unparalleled beauty. Nearby, however, lie the lesser known but equally beautiful canyons of Agia Eirini, Kantanos and Anidri. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit them and relish on their uniqueness.

If you want to take a hike across the excellent mountain trails of the area, we recommend the famous European E4 Trail, criss-crossing Crete, at a short distance. Pick one of those routes and wander across the scenic trails, admiring nature’s gifts.
